Anarchism has had a profound influence on the revolutionary movements in Latin America during the late 19th and early 20th century—the beginning of capitalist industrialization— being the dominant radical ideology up until the 1930’s and the rise of Bolshevism. But even now anarchism continues to have a strong in the region. Inspiring mass movements in places like Brazil and Argentina. Anarchists have much to learn from the history of anarchism in Latin America. In this discussion we’ll be giving a brief chronology of the development of anarchist ideas and movements in countries like Mexico, Argentina, Cuba, Brazil, and many others. We’ll be discussing topics such as the rise of revolutionary syndicalism, the free school movement, and the Mexican and Cuban revolutions.
