Anarchist from Colony is a new South Korean film based on the lives of Korean anarchist Park Yeol and Japanese nihilist-anarchist Fumiko Kaneko. In 1923, during the period of Japanese colonial rule over Korea, Yeol and Kaneko were arrested and accused of conspiracy to assassinate members of the Japanese Imperial family. Both were sentenced to death. At their trial, after sentencing, Kaneko cried out “Long live anarchy!” She later committed suicide in prison, while Yeol, whose sentence was commuted to life imprisonment, was released over twenty years later.
